His success began in 1975 with a victory at the L. V. Jayaweera Memorial Boxing Meet. In 1976, he finished as Runner-up at the Novices Boxing Meet, signaling his rapid progress. The year 1977 marked a high point in his career, as he won the T. B. Jayah Memorial Cup Meet, the Stubbs Shield Championship Meet, and the Invitation Meet in Kandy, demonstrating dominance across major competitions. In 1978, he achieved further success by reclaiming the Stubbs Shield Championship and winning the Junior Championship (Light Heavyweight), while also finishing as Runner-up at the Francis Jayawardena Meet (YMCA). He concluded his competitive journey in 1979 by winning the Francis Jayawardena Meet (YMCA).
