R. Senanga Nawarathne
R. Senanga Nawarathne is a distinguished Sri Lankan national boxer and a proud alumnus of St. Sylvester's College, Kandy, where he studied from 1996 to 2008. During his school years, he actively engaged in both soccer and boxing, laying a strong foundation for a successful sporting career.
From 2003 to 2016, Senanga represented St. Sylvester's College and later the Sri Lanka National Boxing Team, competing with distinction at both national and international levels. His rise in boxing began in 2003 when he claimed victory at the T. B. Jaya Memorial Boxing Meet, marking the start of an impressive competitive journey. He achieved notable success at the school and national levels by becoming the Stubbs Shield Champion in 2007 and 2008, while also securing the Junior National Boxing Championship titles in both years. These achievements firmly established him as one of the leading boxers of his generation. On the international stage, Senanga proudly represented Sri Lanka at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2015 Asian Boxing Confederation Championships in Thailand, where he reached the quarterfinal stage. His international medal tally includes a bronze medal at the Lions Cup Boxing Championship in Colombo, along with gold and silver medals at the Sri Lanka-Mauritius Boxing Dual. Throughout his career, R. Senanga Nawarathne benefited from the guidance and mentorship of his coaches, Duminda Silva and Sisira Kumara, whose contributions played a vital role in shaping his achievements.
