Champion Boxer and Proud Serviceman of the Sri Lanka Air Force

Moragaswatte Gedara Nimal Dharmadasa is a distinguished figure in Sri Lankan boxing, whose career as both a champion athlete and dedicated coach has left an indelible mark on the sport. Nimal proudly served in the Sri Lanka Air Force from 1986 to 1991, where he not only represented the service as a top-level boxer but also nurtured the next generation of fighters. His competitive career was highlighted by remarkable achievements in the bantamweight division, including multiple Sri Lanka Air Force Bantamweight titles (1986-1988).

In 1988, Nimal secured the prestigious ABA Novices Bantamweight Championship, showcasing his exceptional skill and determination. He also earned accolades such as ABA Intermediate Runner-Up and Best Loser in 1987, ABA Laytion Cup Winner (1988), and ABA Clifford Cup Runner-Up (1987), further solidifying his reputation at the national level. Additionally, he represented the Defense Services and ABA National teams as a runner-up, and was a member of the SAF Game Squad (1987 and 1991).

Beyond his personal successes in the ring, Nimal's legacy extends into coaching. From 1990 to 1997, he served as the boxing coach at the Sri Lanka Air Force Diyatalawa Training Camp, where he mentored countless young boxers, instilling in them discipline, skill, and sportsmanship. His contributions have played a vital role in strengthening the standard of boxing within the Air Force and the wider national boxing community.
