Thilak Sing Perera

A Dedicated Servant of Sri Lankan Boxing

Thilak Sing Perera was a highly respected and committed figure in Sri Lankan boxing, particularly renowned for his contributions to officiating and grassroots development. His distinguished journey as a boxing official began in 1982, when he successfully qualified as a Referee and Judge under the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA).

The qualifying examination, held on 25th September 1982, marked a significant milestone in his career. Mr. Perera emerged as the top candidate of the Referees and Judges batch, which comprised 18 course participants. The course was conducted by former FAAB and ABA official Mr. Thomas Silva, with the valuable assistance of the late Mr. Donald Munasinghe, both revered stalwarts of the boxing fraternity. In recognition of his integrity, leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to maintaining high officiating standards, Mr. Perera was subsequently elected President of the Boxing Referees & Judges Association. Further strengthening his credentials, he later qualified as

a FAAB Referee and Judge, earning recognition at a higher level of officiating. He was also privileged to serve as an International Technical Official under AIBA, reflecting his standing and expertise in the sport. Beyond officiating, Mr. Thilak Sing Perera rendered yeoman service to the development of boxing at Veyangoda MMV, where he played a pivotal role in nurturing young talent and strengthening boxing at the school level. His dedication and selfless service made a lasting impact on the growth of the sport in the region. Through decades of commitment, discipline, and passion, Thilak Sing Perera leaves behind an enduring legacy in Sri Lankan boxing, earning the respect and admiration of officials, athletes, and the wider sporting community
