Kingsley began his boxing journey at St. Mary's College, competing in the prestigious L. V. Jayaweera Memorial Cup, a respected platform that nurtured many promising young boxers. He was an active competitor in the Novices category from 1977 to 1979, a formative period in Sri Lankan boxing that produced competitive confidence. Competing at a time when club boxing was fiercely contested and deeply respected, Kingsley demonstrated perseverance and exemplary sportsmanship, earning the regard of fellow boxers, coaches, and officials alike.
